Swopple v1.3 (series #1) by Chris Oberth Copyright 2002
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Swopple is a shareware game for computers running Windows9x. It may be copied and distributed by any means, provided that the original files as supplied by the author remain intact and no charge is made other than for reasonable distribution costs.
(Shareware means, if you like it and want to keep playing, you should register.)

MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Screen Size of 640x480
Pentium 100mhz+, DirectX, mouse
We have seen it run fine on a 100mhz computer, but depending on your machines ability to scale graphics, it could get choppy (low frame rate) if you change the size of the window.

If you enjoy playing Swopple, please consider registering by sending $5.00 cash, check, or money order, to:

    Chris Oberth
    809 Hillside Dr.
    Mundelein IL. 60060 USA

    OR ...

Register online with your credit card, by going to WWW.SWOPPLE.COM, or using a money transfer system such as PAYPAL.COM or C2IT.COM, to send $5.00 to SWOPPLE@ATT.NET

Either way, if you include your e-mail address, with your $5 registration, we can e-mail you the Swopple registration code which enables the following features:
  1. 60 BONUS board sets.
  2. A Swopple, Puzzle Mode cheat.
  3. A way to increase Swopple's difficulty by making it play to level 12.
  4. Access to Swopple's Quick Game feature. (When you don't have the time to play a full game, the Quick Game is one BIG level.)

Each Swopple series has completely different board sets. If you register with $8 we can e-mail you a new Swopple series (in addition to the above). Include your e-mail address (that can accept 2MB file attachments) and which series # you already have.

If you do not have an e-mail address, include a self-addressed stamped CD envelope with your $8 registration.

START NEW GAME:
Use this to start a new game. (Careful, it will abort your current game instantly)

PAUSE:
If you want to stop playing momentarily, click this button. It will hide the tiles, stop the timer, and turn into an "UnPause" button. Press it again to bring back the tiles and continue playing. (This button is pressed automatically whenever a different window takes control.)

OPTIONS:
            DIFFICULTY:
Controls the speed of the timer. There are different board sets for each difficulty setting. (Cannot be changed while playing)
                        HARD: Fast timer.
                      MEDIUM: Medium timer.
                        EASY: Slow timer.
PUZZLE MODE (no timer):
Change between normal (unchecked) and Puzzle mode (checked). In Puzzle Mode, you can only click on tiles that will lead to the most tiles being removed. If you click on tiles that make a set but would not allow you to remove the number of tiles shown at the top of the screen, one of your TRIES will be used. When your TRIES run out, Game Over. (The best time to change modes is at the "SELECT A BOARD SET" screen.)
                VOLUME: OFF
                         25%
                         50%
                         75%
                        100%
         SOUND EFFECTS:
Various sound effect switches (Check the ones you like, uncheck the ones you hate)
                STEREO:
If this is checked (and you have a stereo sound system) events will be heard on the left or right side depending on where they happen on the screen.
  SWAP STEREO CHANNELS:
Switch left and right stereo channels.
     TIMER COLOR CYCLE:
Color changing, or black timer bars.
    TIMER TRANSPARENCY:
Looks COOL! (But might degrade the smoothness of the animations)

HELP:
Instructions on how to play Swopple. (A must read)

ABOUT:
Version # and information about registering. (Truly inspirational)

EXIT:
Go back to Windows. (Careful, there is no undoing this).

MISC. TIPS:
If the timer runs out in levels 8,9, or 10 and there is only one set left, you will get a SECOND CHANCE. The level will start over and your score will be returned to what it was at the beginning of the level. Only one SECOND CHANCE per game.
Puzzle mode games vary in difficulty. The higher the tiles are stacked, the harder it gets to predict future sets. Board sets 1-10 are four tiles high (easy), 11-20 are five tiles high (medium) and 21-30 are six tiles high (hard).
On the "SELECT A BOARD SET" screen, the games are numbered but can be played in any order.
When the timer runs out and the game ends, some tiles will be spinning, these are tiles that could have been made into sets.

TWO PLAYER SWOPPLE?
If two people want to play Swopple at the same time, just make a copy of the SWOPPLE.EXE file. Put the copy in another folder or give it a different name. Then start each one and select the same board set, at the same difficulty. Take turns by having player one play level 1, (in the first window) then player two plays levels 1 & 2, (in the second window) then player one plays levels 2 & 3 and so on... this evens out the advantage of the other player seeing the next level.
Playing Swopple from different folders has the added advantage of keeping separate high scores (and board set info) for different players!

We hope you have as much fun playing Swopple as we had making it!

Special thanks to my play testers Mary, Rosie and Jackie.
Also, thanks to CDX (the best free GDK (Game Development Kit)).

TECH. TIP:
In your WINDOWS folder, SWOPPLE creates a SWOPPLE.INI file. This is where all of your game settings, which board sets have been played, etc. are stored. It links this information to each copy of SWOPPLE via path+filename. If you want to reset this information, for all the copies/players of SWOPPLE, just delete it. If you want to reset this information, for one player/copy just move or rename the .EXE file. (In other words, if you mysteriously lose your settings, it's probably because the SWOPPLE.EXE file was moved or renamed.)

SHORT DESCRIPTION:
Swopple (series #1) is a, PC shareware, puzzle game in which the player swaps any two adjacent tiles in order to make horizontal or vertical sets of the same color. By clicking between them, the player must remove all possible sets of 3 or more tiles before the timer runs out. Swopple starts out easy, but increases in difficulty as each level increases in size. Complete all 10 levels of a board set to win. In puzzle mode there is no timer but the player may only swap tiles that will lead to the highest number of tiles being removed. There are 50 board sets for each of 3 difficulty settings and 30 puzzle mode board sets, for a total of 180 games. Consisting of over 1600 levels. More series will be made available soon. High scores are kept for each of the 150, board sets.
