                1. LICENSE AGREEMENT

1.1. The PowerControl Screen Saver is a freeware program product. 

1.2. The author - Sergey Merzlikin, exclusively owns all copyrights to
PowerControl Screen Saver.

1.3. The PowerControl Screen Saver may be freely distributed provided the
distribution package is not modified. No person or company may charge a fee
for the distribution of this software without written permission from the
copyright holder. 

1.4. The PowerControl Screen Saver IS DISTRIBUTED "AS IS".
NO WARRANTY OF ANY KIND IS EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED.
YOU USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. THE AUTHOR WILL NOT BE LIABLE
FOR DATA LOSS, DAMAGES, LOSS OF PROFITS OR ANY OTHER
KIND OF LOSS WHILE USING OR MISUSING THIS SOFTWARE.

                2. PURPOSE AND SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
		
2.1. The main purpose of this program product is to provide opportunity of
turning display monitor into Standby mode after the some time interval of
inactivity. The only Microsoft OS with internal support of this feature is
Windows 95. The Windows 98 and Windows 2000 can only turn off monitor(s).

2.2. The PowerControl Screen Saver can be used on systems with Microsoft
Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows 2000 OS installed. This program can also
run under Windows NT 4.0, but in this case it will not control monitor power.
This program can't run under Windows NT 3.x.

2.3. To use this program you must have display monitor, which can turn into
energy saving modes. These monitors are called as EnergyStar-compliant or
DPMS-compatible. USING THIS SOFTWARE WITH MONITOR WHICH
DOESN'T SUPPORT ENERGY SAVING MODES MAY DAMAGE THIS MONITOR.

2.4. This program product requires the Visual Basic 5.0 Runtime libraries.
Windows 98 and Windows 2000 already contain these libraries. If you are using
another OS, you may download full installation package of these libraries
at the following location:

                3. INSTALLATION AND UNINSTALLATION

3.1. Before installation of the PowerControl Screen Saver be sure to install
the Visual Basic 5.0 Runtime libraries (see p.2.4.). If installation program
(Setup.exe) can't start, that is you need to install these libraries,
otherwise all of them already installed.

3.2. To install the PowerControl Screen Saver start the file Setup.exe from
the installation disk or directory where you have unpacked the distributive
file. You may also simple copy the file PowerControl.scr into the System
directory on your computer (by default, it is c:\Windows\System on
Windows 95 and Windows 98 systems, and c:\WinNT\System32 on Windows NT 4.0
and Windows 2000 systems).

3.3. To uninstall the PowerControl Screen Saver open Control Panel and start
applet "Add/Remove programs", then select "PowerControl Screen Saver" and
click "Change/Remove" button. You may also simple run this command:
  PowerControl.scr /Uninstall

                4. USING POWERCONTROL SCREEN SAVER

4.1. If PowerControl Screen Saver is installed, you may open Display applet of
Control Panel and select PowerControl as your current Screen Saver. Click
"Settings" to start PowerControl configuration dialog. On this dialog window
you may select the secondary Screen Saver and adjust time intervals to turn
monitor into Low Power (Standby) mode and Power off mode. All time intervals
are measured from the start of PowerControl Screen Saver.

4.2. All configuration options of PowerControl Screen Saver are global for all
users registered on this computer, but to set PowerControl as current Screen
Saver on Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000 you must do it for every user
separately.

4.3. Only for Windows 95/98: PowerControl Screen Saver doesn't provide
internally any password protection, but it may be provided by the secondary
Screen Saver. Once the secondary Screen Saver is selected, clicking "Password"
button on the main Windows 95/98 Screen Saver configuration dialog opens the
password protection configuration dialog for the secondary Screen Saver.

4.4. The PowerControl Screen Saver detects appearance on the screen of the
password prompt request and powers on monitor at this time. If the correct
password was not entered, the monitor enters into energy saving modes as
usual after the preset time intevals from the moment of disappearing of the
password prompt.

4.5. The PowerControl Screen Saver doesn't interfere or conflict with the
system Power Configuration settings. You don't need to turn off the system
monitor power timers, you may use them in addition to the PowerControl
functionality.

4.6. If your computer is set up to work in multiuser environment, you may
click "Advanced..." button to set up Screen Saver options for Logon Screen
and Default User. All these settings including Power timers for Windows 95
are system settings, and don't affect PowerControl behaviour.

4.7. The PowerControl prevents appearance of "extra buttons" on taskbar,
which often may be seen there after the Screen Saver ends it's work.

10/26/99. Version 1.00.
11/29/99. Version 1.01. Added "extra button" removal from the TaskBar,
fixed bug in uninstall procedure, which caused appearance on some
computers of full-screen DOS window, added Russian version of interface.
08/17/00. Version 1.02. Fixed bug, which sometimes prevented 
the Powering On of the monitor, rewritten install and uninstall procedures,
fixed some minor bugs.
