KRYPTEL VERSION HISTORY
-----------------------

4.0	04/01/2002

	Filesets introduced.

	New Kryptel Tray Utility added.

User-defined actions for the Kryptel icon doubleclick. Different
actions may be assigned to the Kryptel desktop and tray icons.

Files are processed asyncronously, so encrypting a large file
using the right-click menu does not lock the Windows Explorer.

Shredding using the right-click menu is also performed asyncronously.

The progress bar remembers its new position if it is moved.

If the file already exists, the program displays a replace dialog
	instead of an error message.

Full support for LAN encrypting/shredding. Support for UNC path in
	the form \\server\share\path.

All Kryptel functions are available to limited users (NT4/2000/XP).

The Crypto Settings panel is fully compatible with the Windows XP Control
Panel (see the Control Panel category 'Performance and Maintenance').

	Revised Help system.

	Bug fixed:
Error in the Kryptel context menu handler; opening the
right-click menu may lead to some strange effects on Windows XP.

	Numerous minor fixes and improvements.

3.8	06/01/2001

	New ciphers included:
		AES (also known as Rijndael)
		Serpent (former AES candidate)

Can work with encrypted files which have the 'read-only'
attribute set or reside on a read-only device.

Additional confirmation required for removing a file
	from the container.

Double-click in the Kryptel browser decrypts the
	selected file.

	Improved keyserver:
		Better key files handling
The password window can be moved.

	Command-line interface (krcmd.exe) added.

Encryption can be done without shredding source files.

3.74 07/06/2000

Support for Windows Commander extension (krwc.wcx)

Right-click menu integration and the desktop icon
can be turned on or off now.

	Bugs fixed:
Problem with the password window input
		focus under Win2000.

		Occasional keyserver crashes while typing
the first character of a password.

A few minor changes and bugfixes.

common libraries and eliminate several compatibility
	problems.

3.7	03/03/2000

Now works on Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000.

Automated Data Recovery subsystem has been added to
enable full data recovery after an unrecoverable
	error or a system crash.

	New 'Verify after encryption' option.

New 'Verify' command in the Explorer right-click menu.

Improved integrated shredder deletes files more reliably.

The Cryptographic Settings component starts faster.

The Kryptel Browser might crash if encyption has
been aborted with the 'Cancel' button.

the same functionality as version 3.6

Improved handling of key files. You can use several
	key files now.

Raw keys have been introduced in addition to passwords
	and keys.

	Revised Help file.

	Bug fixed:
Stack overflow when there were too many objects to
encrypt. The program crashed, leaving the source
		files unencrypted.

A few minor improvements and bugfixes.

3.5	09/30/1999

The Kryptel browser has been added.

The password dialog now allows password re-entering.

By default, Kryptel now produces files with '.edc' extension
(generic containers). Old '.lok' and '.lfd' files are fully
	supported.

Support for key caching (required for Windows Commander
	extension).

A few minor changes and bugfixes.

	Bug fixed:
In some systems (depending on the Windows/OLE version)
the shredder may delete a file without overwriting its
contents when the file is small enough.

3.01	06/15/1999

	Bug fixed:
Because of improper COM initialization the program in some
circumstances fails to recognize the registration code.
	Several minor corrections in itb.dll.

3.0	06/08/1999

Shell extension module (klx.dll) has been added. Encryption
Container Manager (ecr.exe, former hle.exe), and Shredder
(shr.exe, former fdestroy.exe) were completely redesigned.
Numerous changes in other high-level modules. As a result
of all the changes, it is now a user program, and not a
	programming library.

2.1	November 1998

High-level components added: Key Manager (keymgr.exe),
High-Level Encryptor (hle.exe), and File Destruction Utility
	(fdestroy.exe).

2.0	April 1998

All the components were converted from DLLs to COM modules.
SAFER and SPEED ciphers were excluded from the library due
to their unsatisfactory performance on 32-bit processors.

1.0	May 1997

	First release.
