SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS AND SETUP
=============================

PC Private Eye enables your PC to monitor your home and office
while you are away.

In order to use PC Private Eye, you must have the
following configuration:

- Microsoft Windows(R) 95 or Windows(R) 98
- Pentium processor with 32 Meg RAM
	(64 Meg Recommended)

	--or--

- Microsoft Windows NT(R) version 4.0*
- Pentium processor with 32 Meg RAM
	(64 Meg Recommended)

- A digital video camera. The camera should be installed, drivers installed,
and operating prior to attempting to configure PC Private Eye to utilize it.

* Some functionality will not work under Windows NT(R). Specifically,
PC Private Eye will not autostart when the machine boots, and it
will only run if someone is logged on.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

- Your computer desktop properties should be configured such that
resolution is at least 800X600 with at a minimum 16 bit (high color)
  color resolution.

- Cameras that connect to a video-capture card will use less of
your computer's processor than cameras that connect through your
computer's parallel port. It is recommended that you do not use
a color parallel port camera unless your computer is at least a
  Pentium 133.

- If you are not sure whether or not your camera type is supported,
install and run the un-registered version of PC Private Eye. If
video doesn't work, then you shouldn't purchase the product.

- The un-registered version of PC Private Eye will only monitor for
motion detection for 30 consecutive minutes. After that, a message
will popup indicating that you are running the un-registered version.

To uninstall PC Private Eye
---------------------------------
1. In Control Panel, double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.

2. On the Install/Uninstall tab, click PC Private Eye, and
   then click Add/Remove Programs.

3. If a dialog box appears asking if you want to restart your
   computer, click Yes.

Warnings and Known Bugs
-----------------------

- During the operation of PC Private Eye you may experience a situation where the program
seems to be frozen. When clicking on an option, no response is generated. This condition
is related to the fact that PC Private Eye is currently maintaining the maximum number
of snapshots configured to be saved on your hard disk. The operation can be resource
intensive, and is especially prone to occur if files are being saved on remote machines,
or if intensive file saving activity is occuring. A message may appear indicating that
background operation should be "switched to". Click the "Switch To" button to continue.

NEW IN VERSION 2.0
==================

1. Time Exposure Feature - Allows PC Private Eye to periodically snap a photo. The series
of photos or snapshots can be stored on a file system, or uploaded to a web site.
2. Web site update (Time Exposure) - Standard "Web Cam" functionality. PC Private Eye can
now be configured to send "Time Exposure" snapshots to a web server whenever a snapshot
   is taken.
3. Web site update (Motion Detection) - PC Private Eye can be configured to upload snapshots
to a web site whenever motion is detected.
4. Profile Cleaner - Ability to delete un-used PC Private Eye profiles.
5. E-mail - Ability to send e-mail with or without picture attachments directly from the
   PC Private Eye interface.
6. LAN support - PC Private Eye will now send e-mail, and web site updates, over a LAN
   connection.
7. Time Stamps on snapshots - Both Motion Detected snapshots, and Time Exposure snapshots,
can now be configured to overlay a time stamp.
8. Delay mail and motion detection web site updates - Version 1.0 immediately sent e-mail
notification upon detection of motion. This resulted in some snapshots not being sent.
Version 2.0 will now wait 30 seconds before sending e-mail or pager notification. This
way, more captured snapshots will be sent.
9. New and improved web server - The new version of this feature has much improved
   performance.

VIDEO
=====

- To use this product, you need either a video-capture card
and camera or a video camera that connects through your
computer's parallel (printer) port, or USB port.

- Multiple video devices are supported.

- If your video device and associated drivers are not properly
installed PC Private Eye will indicate that it cannot find the camera.

- Cameras that connect to a video-capture card will use less of
your computer's processor than cameras that connect through
your computer's parallel port. It is recommended that you not
use a color parallel port camera unless your computer is at
  least a Pentium 133.

- You cannot run another application that uses the same video device
as PC Private Eye while running PC Private Eye.

- If some areas of your video window contain the wrong colors,
your camera might be aimed at an area with insufficient light.
Some video drivers might provide a low-light filter option.

- If you are using the video features in a dark area, some
cameras will cause your computer to become extremely slow
  and unresponsive.

- This product has not been tested with black and white cameras.
