Windows Utilities from Aylott Computing

USERLOG.EXE

v1.0

Introduction:

This is an evaluation copy of USERLOG. It records user names as they log
on and off and, optionally, also records the names of each application
and window they use. Dates and times are stored.

You are welcome to try out USERLOG free of charge. If you find it useful
please register the program as detailed below. Your support will make it
possible to produce updates and additional Windows applications.

You are encouraged to pass these utilities on to friends and colleagues
but please keep them in their original format and with all files included
in the package.

Note that the registered version will be completely hidden in Windows 9x.

Installation:

Copy all of the files into any folder (eg C:\WINUTILS). It is recommended
that the folder be included in your PATH (refer to the WINUTILS.HLP file
for instructions).

VB5 run-time files:

You may also need to install the VB5 run-time files. You can download
these files from http://www.bigfoot.com/~daylott/software.htm

Starting and running USERLOG:

Select Start / Run and type 'UserLog' without the quotes. You may need to
enter the full pathname if it is not included in your PATH.

If you are evaluating the software you will see an initial screen showing
how to register the product. Click on OK and you will see an information
screen. This has a check box to allow you to record the names of each
window the user clicks on as well as the user names.

A check box also allows you to startup USERLOG automatically every time
Windows starts.

If you have the registered version of USERLOG, neither of these windows
will appear when you run USERLOG. When the program is running it will be
completely hidden - you will not even see an entry when you bring up the
task manager with Ctrl-Alt-Delete.

To change the parameters in the registered version it is necessary to start
USERLOG by typing 'Userlog setup' without the ''s

The name of the log file is USERLOG.TXT and it is stored in the same
folder as USERLOG.EXE. You will not be able to delete this file while
USERLOG is running - the easiest way to view and/or delete the file is
to shutdown the PC to DOS mode and use DOS commands to check the file

For example:

CD \WINUTILS
EDIT USERLOG.TXT

If you wish to edit the file in Windows, you must copy the file when in
DOS mode.

Uninstalling:

Before deleting the files, you must run 'USERLOG SETUP' and ensure that
the 'Run At Startup' check box is OFF (ie unchecked).

Now restart your PC to ensure that USERLOG is NOT running and delete all
the files you installed earlier.

Don't forget to change the PATH statement in your AUTOEXEC.BAT if you
amended it.

You do not need to uninstall the VB5 run-time files as they may be
useful for other programs. However, an uninstall routine is available
if required via the Control Panel.

Registering and paying:

USERLOG.EXE will be completely hidden in the registered version and
will not even appear in the task list. This means that it will be
completely invisible to the user and cannot be stopped.

To receive the registration code to run USERLOG on a single PC,
please send US$15 to:
