====================================================
For updates and to report bugs, go to www.jambient.com

Description:
jambient lets you use a joystick (or mouse) to sculpt
sound in 16 channels simultaneously and move in sonic space.
Designed to allow live performance of electronica, ambient
and audio collage style music. Features: instant drag and drop
loading of wave files; easy volume, pitch, pan, fading and
cross fading controls; controls for manipulating groups of
samples; mix volume, pitch, or pan using joystick (or mouse);
position sounds in sonic space and move around in them using
joystick (or mouse); set volume, pitch or pan patterns for
samples. Also has scripting capabilities. jambientFREE is a
freeware version with only 4 channels and some other
limitations.

Installation:
To setup jambient (or jambientFREE), run the self-extracting
exe to unzip all the files to a temporary directory. Then run
setup.exe, choosing the directory in which you want to install
jambient (or jambientFREE). If the setup program needs to
replace system files that are in use, it will ask you to
reboot and then to run setup again to complete the
installation.
**NB: jambientFREE installers obtained from Simtel require
that you already have Visual Basic 6 runtimes installed,
available in simvb6-6.zip at Simtel

Help:
To get help on a control, drag the question mark in the bottom
of a window and drop onto the control. Also look for hints in
the status bar.

Requirements:
Sound card; 32 meg ram, Pentium 133 or higher, recommended.

jambient requires that you install DirectX 7.0a
or above, available at www.microsoft.com/directx.
It might already be installed; if it is not,
jambient will tell you.

To ensure that your help viewer is up to date,
run hhupd.exe, which is installed in the \Help
subdirectory of jambient.

If you want to run jambient scripts, you need to
install the latest version of Microsoft Scripting
Engine, available at msdn.microsoft.com/scripting
(click the VBScript item in the menu).
The engine might already be installed on your machine.
Try running scripts--if you get an error message
about a missing scripting engine, you need the
download.

Problems? The diagnostic program:
If you run into a problem starting up jambient,
run jamDiag.exe, which is installed in the
same directory as jambient.exe. It reports on
all required components, and will tell
you if any are missing. jamDiag saves a
report to jamDiag.txt

Preferences file:
You should probably set up a preferences.jam file
for yourself. This will let you start jambient with
your preferred settings. See "Saving and Opening" in help
for more on this.

This distribution package contains the following files:

jambient.CAB (jambientFREE.cab in the jambientFREE package)
setup.exe
setup.lst
readme.txt
License.txt
distrib.txt
