Programming software for Samsung NX308/820/1232 PBX

This program was developed to simplify parameter editing of the popular
NX1232, NX820 or NX308 Samsung PBX (KSU).

Important! This program is not capable of setting the parameters for others
PBX of Samsung like the DCS or SKP models.

Using this program you'll no longer have to use the cryptic command number
system (entered on the system phone) to set your PBX parameters.
This will make configuring your PBX much easier in other ways as well, like
being able to use a real keyboard to enter extension names. All parameters
are grouped in a logical manner according to the function.
Another important feature is that you can now back up your
PBX configuration to your computer. A true lifesaver if your PBX
has some type of failure causing it to lose programming or
if you ever have to replace your PBX with another
NX system. Since you can save your parameters to your computer, you can
also work on the configuration anywhere that you can bring your computer.
When you're ready to implement the changes, simply go to your phone room,
connect your computer to the Samsung NX PBX and dump the
new configuration to the system.

To use this program, you'll need a PC-compatible computer running
Windows 95/98/NT. To connect your computer to the PBX,
you'll also need a special connection cable (see pin assignments below).

Important! The cable used to connect the PBX to your computer differs from
common 'modem' cables used to connect modems to computers. The software will
not work without the correct cable. The correct cable is basically a
'null-modem' cable, but be careful - there are a few different null-modem
schemes. It is recommended that you use the cable described below.
The two connectors used to make the cable are available from Radio Shack
or just about any decent electronics store. If you lack the skill
to make your own cable, any electronic service
store should be able to make one for you for a fee.

To install the program, run SETUP_NX.EXE. You can then select a subdirectory
where the package will be installed (default is 'Program Files\Samsung NX').
After successfully installing the program, double-click the Prog icon
(located in the Samsung NX folder) to launch the program. Be sure that you have
valid communication parameters in the Profiles option of the Settings menu.
Connect to the PBX by clicking the 'Connect' button. You should now be able
to ascertain the PBX status by clicking the 'read PBX' button on the
toolbar of the program.

The difference between this read-only version and the full-featured version
is that this version can only read and view current PBX settings. While you
can edit and save settings to disk, you will not be able to upload your
changes back to the PBX. You can, however, change the time and date of the
built-in PBX clock. The main purpose of the read-only version is that it
allows you to test for program functionality and compatibility with your
PBX. If you find the program useful, you can buy the full-featured version
which is write-enabled. See file HOWTOBUY.DOC for more details.

2. Troubleshooting:

The most common reason for connection failure is usually due to either using
the wrong cable, a problem with the cable or the cable was not correctly
made. There are a few different ways for pin assignments to be configured
for a null-modem cable, but you absolutely must use the pin assignments
outlined above. Recheck your work - this is the most common reason people
have trouble with the software.

The second most common reason for a connection failure is improper port
settings for the PC and PBX. Both must be configured identically.

Third - check password used to access programming
interface of the PBX. Program uses '4321' string by default -
look the dialog Settings->System of the main program menu to change it.
