VirtualCID readme file
----------------------

VirtualCID Freeware offers you the ability to view and save callerID information from your callerID enabled modem
on your computer. (note: you still require callerID service from your local telephone provider).

Requirements
------------

+ JRE 1.2 (donwload it at http://java.sun.com/products/jdk/1.2/jre/download-windows.html)
+ a Caller ID capable modem
+ At least for the Beta releases, WINDOWS ONLY!

Installation
------------

Once you have installed the JRE on your system:

	- unzip files to a directory (if you are reading this, then you already did that!).
	- Install these manually:

		- in the install directory:
			- Copy Alpnmain.ttf to the font directory of your system (generally c:\windows\fonts)
			- Copy comm.jar to the lib/ext directory of your JRE installation.
			- Copy javax.comm.properties to the lib directory of your JRE installation.
			- Copy win32com.dll to the bin directory of your JRE installation.
			- after doing this, you may delete the install directory and all of the files in it.
		- edit vcid.cfg and enter the valid COM port for the modem on your system.

You should now be able to launch VirtualCID.bat

Known Issues
------------

- The images for the ledDisplay and the messageDisplay seem to be "erased" for the VirtualCID default skin once the screensaver comes on.
The cause of this still hasn't been found. (Only happens on certain systems)

- The system can sometimes freeze and not come back from screensaver mode
  (may not affect all systems).

- After prolonged operation scrolling through messages doesn't work properly.
No delay is given before returning to the status view, so scrolling through long lists of messages is not possible.

Special Thanks

To the testers who made this public Beta happen, and in particular to Ray for all of his testing efforts.
