	Mouse-O-Meter Version 2 RELEASE NOTES
	--------------------------------------------

	Mouse-O-Meter for Windows 95/98/NT (c) 1997-1999 Surf Software Consulting
	(formerly Harlsoft Systems).

OVERVIEW

Mouse-O-Meter shows you how far your mouse cursor has travelled on your screen
in km, metres, cm, mm, miles, yards, feet or inches. It also shows how many mouse
button clicks you have done (left and right), and how many keystrokes on the keyboard.
There are resettable trip metres for these odometers, and "speedometers" for each item
	giving an average-per-day value.

When the odometer window is hidden or minimised, you can see the odometer values by
hovering your mouse cursor over the mouse icon in the tray.

You will be amazed at how far your mouse cursor travels and how many clicks and keystrokes
	you do!

UPDATING FROM VERSION 1

o	Mouse-O-Meter Version 2 will remember the existing Version 1 odometer readings.

o	The new speedometer readings (distance per day, mouse clicks per day and
keystrokes per day) will only start applying from the date you install V2.
For example, if you have 20 kilometres on the clock when you install V2, and you
do 300 metres on your first day of using V2, the total distance will be 20300 m
and the average per day will be 300 metres/day.

INSTALLING MOUSE-O-METER

	1.	If you are running Mouse-O-Meter Version 1, shut it down by right-clicking the
mouse tray icon and clicking "Exit".

	2.	Create a directory (C:\Program Files\Surf Software\Mouse-O-Meter) and copy the
files MOM2.exe, MOMlib.dll, LICENCE.TXT, and this file (Release Notes.txt) into
		this directory.

	3.	Run MOM2.exe.

	4.	From the menu, select "Configure" and "Screen Size" and select your screen size.

UNINSTALLING MOUSE-O-METER

To uninstall Mouse-O-Meter: (why would you want to do that?)

	1.	From the Configure menu, uncheck "Autostart at Boot".

	2.	From the Odometer menu, select "Exit".

That's all you have to do. Now Mouse-O-Meter isn't running anymore and can be deleted.

To restart Mouse-O-Meter, run the program
		C:\Program Files\Surf Software\Mouse-O-Meter\MOM2.exe.

(Remember to check "Autostart at Boot" if you want Mouse-O-Meter to start
automatically every time your computer starts up.)

If you really want to delete Mouse-O-Meter permanently, delete the directory
		C:\Program Files\Surf Software\Mouse-O-Meter.

NEW FEATURES

o	Left and right mouse button click-o-meters

o	Keyboard key-o-meter for measuring keystrokes

o	Average per day meters for odometer and button click-o-meters

USING MOUSE-O-METER

	SELECTING MENU OPTIONS

Menus are available both on the main odometer window and by right-clicking the mouse icon
on the system tray (usually at the right-hand side of the Windows taskbar).

HIDE OR MINIMISE THE MAIN ODOMETER WINDOW

From the Odometer menu select "Hide" or "Minimise" respectively, or click the
appropriate button at the right of the title bar.

When minimised, the icon in the Taskbar displays the total distance travelled.
When hidden, hover the mouse cursor over the mouse tray icon to get the
		total and trip distances travelled.

NOTE: Only the registered version allows you to hide or minimise the main window.

	SHOW THE MAIN ODOMETER WINDOW

To show the odometer window: double-click the mouse tray icon or right-click the mouse
tray icon and select "Show Mouse-O-Meter".

	RESET TRIP METERS

On the main odometer window, click the red button, or select "Reset Trip Meters" from
		the Odometer menu.

	SUSPEND ODOMETERS

Select "Suspend Odometers" from the Odometer menu.
When suspended, the trip meters continue to function.
Select this item again to resume normal operation.

	SET ODOMETER MEASURING UNITS

Select "Odometer Units" from the "Configure" menu.

	SELECT SCREEN SIZE

Select "Screen Size" from the "Configure" menu.
For more accurate odometer operation, measure your visible screen size with a ruler.
Select "Other" from the "Screen Size" menu, and enter the height and width of your screen.

	OTHER OPTIONS

The following options are available on the "Configure" menu.

o	Always on Top - the odometer window stays on top of other windows
o	Autostart at Boot - start Mouse-O-Meter whenever the computer starts up
o	Reset Trip Meters at Startup	- reset the trip meters to zero when starting up
o	Hide at Startup - hide the main odometer window when starting up

	MEASURING OTHER DISTANCES

Mouse-O-Meter can be used to measure any distance on the screen by tracing it with the mouse.
For example, you could view a street map on the screen and trace a route with the mouse to
obtain the actual distance of the route.
Or you could trace the length of a seedling's root from video or a photo displayed on the screen,
to obtain values for the daily growth of the plant.

		To measure other values:
		1. Ensure that the odometer window is visible and is set to Always on Top.
		2. Calculate the scaling factor. For example, assume you are tracing a route on a map.
Using a ruler to measure the scale from the screen, you discover that 1 km = 3.4 cm.
On a 17" screen that is 31.7 cm wide, the width of the screen represents
			31.7 / 3.4 = 9.32352 km = 932352 cm, and the height of the screen (23.2 cm) represents
			23.2 / 3.4 = 6.82353 km = 682353 cm.
		3. Suspend the odometers so that this activity will not affect the main odometers.
		4. Select "Screen Size" from the "Configure" menu. Select "Other" and enter the calculated
values (932352 and 682353) into the Width and Height fields respectively.
		5. Select "Odometer Units" from the "Configure" menu for the required measurement units.
		6. With the odometer window active, move the mouse cursor to the start of the route on the screen.
		7. Using the keyboard, press ALT-O-R to activate "Reset Trip Meters" on the "Odometer" menu.
		8. Trace the route and read the distance off the trip meter.
		9. When finished, restore your screen size to its correct setting.
		10. Uncheck "Suspend Odometers" on the "Odometer" menu to resume normal operation.
