What is VGrep95?
****************

VGrep95 is the Windows 95/NT (GUI) version of VGrep for DOS/Windows, written
by Ian Whalley at Virus Bulletin (http://www.virusbtn.com). VGrep is a
cross-reference utility dedicated to names assigned to computer viruses.
A well known problem arises from the fact that antivirus scanners don't
follow a common stardard when their authors assign names to computer viruses.
Here is what Ian Whalley says about the problem:

"VGrep is an attempt to provide a solution to a problem which vexes
anyone who takes technical support calls in the anti-virus industry.
In spite of the best efforts of CARO, there are very little signs of
convergence in virus naming 'conventions'. By it's very nature, it
is an ugly problem.

What VGrep does is attempt to provide a system to cross-reference
this myriad of names. The logic is that if I run X scanner products
across our virus collection, I will be able to combine the log files
generated by the products (the primary key being the filename, of
course) into a table. The reality, of course, is nothing like as
easy as this, and this work requires a fair amount of processing
power."

I decided to write a Windows 32-bit version of VGrep for different motives
which go beyond the simple fact that a GUI program is more easy and funny to
handle: possibility to browse the results of a search, take advantage of
the flat memory model available under the WIN32, possibility to highlight
particular results by bitmaps, and so on.

If you want to know more details about VGrep, its purpose and the efforts
which stay behind its development, you may check out the following URL:

How to install VGrep95
**********************

VGrep95 is very easy to install on your hard disk. Simply, run the SETUP.EXE
program and follow the instructions displayed on the screen. Under Windows 95,
you may run SETUP.EXE using Explorer (or other utilities) or typing directly
the name of the program at the prompt of a DOS Box and then pressing the
<ENTER> key.

The files included in the package are:

SETUP EXE - the installer

ABOUT MID - the MIDI file played by the About box of VGrep95
README TXT - this file

IMPORTANT NOTE: in order to run correctly, VGrep95 needs the configuration and
database files contained into VGrep for DOS. So before to start with VGrep95,
you must download and install VGrep for DOS. The VGrep's package is freely
distributed on the Internet by Virus Bulletin. To download the last version
of VGrep for DOS point your browser at the Virus Bulletin's Web site and
follow the instructions cointaned in the page concerning the Project VGrep.

Screen resolution: VGrep95 was developed to fit at best in a 1024x768 screen
resolution. It doesn't have scaling capabilities, but I
have tested it under lower resolutions and it was displayed
