MacExplorer Mini-FAQ
====================
Q/	I cannot display any Mac volume
A/	MacExplorer analyzes only volumes which have been created by Services For Macintosh (SFM).
It cannot recognize MacServerIP or ExtremeZIP volumes.
Administrative sharing (C$, D$, etc.) must be active on the NT Server
and you must have the corresponding rights.

        MacExplorer running on Windows 95/98:
'Remote Administration Services' must be installed, see Microsoft Knowledge Base Article Q141460.
MacExplorer running on Windows 95/98 cannot display Macintosh specific informations
(Type and Creator codes, size of resource forks, Macintosh comments)

Q/	MacExplorer is slower than the standard Explorer
A/	Yes, but MacExplorer do more! The program may (for each file):
	- check the "normal" data file
	- open/read/close the Finder Infos alternate stream to get Type/Creator codes
	- check Type/Creator codes to get the Macintosh Type of the document
(using a table that you can easily edit - see 'Configuration/Macintosh signatures' menu [F3])
	- check the corresponding Macintosh icon stored in the subdirectory 'icons'
	- check the size of the resource fork
	- open/read/close the comments alternate stream
	- check if the path contains Unicode peculiar characters that are invalid for Windows 95/98 platforms
	- get the Office Properties (if any; this is time consuming...)
You can control the displayed informations using the 'Configuration/Display settings' menu [F2]
and allow to cancel any running exploration using the ESC key.

Q/	How to control the Macintosh Type informations and the displayed icons?
A/	* Macintosh Type informations are stored in a table
called 'Signatures.txt' which is a corresponding table between:
	- Macintosh Signature (4 chars Type code + 4 chars Creator code)
	- Windows 3 chars extension; used by MacExplorer to open a file on a double-click
	- Macintosh Type description; the information displayed in the column 'Type'
You can edit easily this table - see 'Configuration/Macintosh signatures' menu [F3]
	* Macintosh icons are stored in the subdirectory 'icons'
that you must create on the MacExplorer installation directory.
Icons are 32x32 image files (.gif, .ico, .jpg) named following the corresponding Macintosh signatures.
'Configuration/Known Macintosh icons' menu [F4] displays the recognized icons stored in the subdirectory 'icons'.
You can reload the icons clicking 'Load icons'; then click [F4] again to return to the normal screen.
When 'Macintosh icons' is checked in the 'Configuration/Display settings' menu [F2],
icons are automatically loaded at the start-up and used insteed the default document icon.

IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER
