KPKFile v7.1 is a complete suite of encryption tools for Windows platforms (Windows
9x, ME, NT, 2000, and XP). A common interface provides access to three separate
forms: 1. Password Memo database; 2. File encryption and file wiping utility;
3. Private Folder utility.

1. PASSWORD MEMO: Password Memo is a useful encrypted database that allows you
to manage your passwords in and out of KPKFile interface. You can store up to 64
passwords, related data (Accounts, UserNames), and descriptions allowing you to
seek data within database. You can copy passwords to KPKFile memory. Moreover, you can
easily copy data to clipboard and paste them into any application by right-clicking
your mouse. This option lets you manage all your encrypted data by very complex safe
passwords, while you have to remember only one password: the Password Memo password.

2. FILE ENCRYPTION AND FILE WIPING: KPKFile packs files in binary code that can be
inoculated inside another still working above suspicion file. The option is useful
if you want the maximum of privacy and if you wish to hide that you are hiding
something (in fact, note that the use itself of encrypted files can be unsafe).
Drag and drop allows you to pick up files on Desktop, Explorer, or your favorite
email program, drag them around the display, and drop in KPKFile. Encoding is
coupled with a powerful compression algorithm to reduce file size. File deletion
is always automatically preceded by multiple data changing to make useless file
undeletion. Finally, erase function allows wiping files from disk drive or from
Recycled Bin. For instance, I suggest to you to drag and drop files contained
inside Recycle Bin to destroy them completely.

3. PRIVATE FOLDER: The program manages a secret folder (named Private Folder) in
which you can store a tree of subdirectories. Private Folder is a regular directory,
which can be managed out of KPKFile interface too. Moreover, the program can close
and hide a pre-existent folder. Distinct Private Folders can be created by different
passwords, hence many users are allowed to have their own Private Folder on same
computer. Besides, Private Folder encrypted files can be moved to a server. So, the
same Private Folder can be shared by different workstations in LAN: in this case,
it is mandatory to manage Private Folder as read-only setting the proper KPKFile
advanced setup option (however, one user can be authorized to update it). Moreover,
moving encrypted files can be useful to protect data integrity against local HD failure
too. Each folder data are automatically saved into selected directory (default: WINDOWS
or WINNT). Recent data are stored in (xxxxxxxx).dat file. The (xxxxxxxx).olx archives
retain last sessions. Folder deletion is always preceded by multiple data changing to
make useless file undeletion. Private Folder comes with four utilities: 1. Password
manager feature (allowing to manage up to eight Private Folders by one password).
2. Backup feature. 3. Private Folder activity log file (able to record unauthorized
attempts to access Private Folder too). 4. Old sessions recovery.

KPKFile MEMORY
The program memory retains the last typed passwords and the passwords recovered
from Password Memo database. KPKFile memory status is displayed by main menu
icon showing: M (= password Memo), F (= File encryption), P (= Private folder), G
(= password manager Global password). Moreover, you can verify (and modify)
memory status by clicking the proper menu option. KPKFile memory is cleared by
program shutdown, by clicking the Clear button, or automatically every 10 minutes.
Besides, you can set automatic clearing timer by a specific advanced menu option.

KPKFile FILES

The program creates the following files residing in selected directory (default:
WINDOWS or WINNT):

- (xxxxxxxx).dat and (xxxxxxxx).olx for each Private Folder. These files contain
folder data.

Moreover, KPKFile creates the following files residing in WINDOWS (or WINNT)
directory:

- (xxxxxxxx).log. This file records Private Folder activity.
- KPKFile.ini. This file contains KPKFile setup data.
- KPKFile.log. This file records KPKFile errors.
- KPKFile.mem and KPKFile.mbk. These files contain Password Memo data.
- KPKFile.pwa. This file is created in case of Password Manager feature use.

KPKFile FILES BACKUP

It is advisable to backup former files (as any other sensitive file on your computer) to
avoid loss of data in case of HD failure.

INSTALLATION TROUBLESHOOTING

In case of installation problems, I suggest to perform the following simple manual
installation. Please, follow these 3 steps: 1. Verify the existence on your computer
of the VB6 runtime dll, msvbvm60.dll. If you do not have that in your windows\system
(or system32 for NT) directory, you can download it directly from simtel.com or
download.cnet.com. 2. Extract KPKFILE.EXE from KPKFILE.CAB file using WINZIP. 3. Create
a shortcut to KPKFILE.EXE.
