The reason I renamed it to KLOK2K41 is that when we get duplicate filenames, it
tends to make things a bit messy. The renaming is usually no problem, as most
files are in archive form and after unpacking, remain as the author intended.

If you remember (and I know you do), this was in update of the earlier KLOK2K.
What I then had was duplicates. I have since deleted the earlier version and can
rename it back if your like?

The only other possibility I can think of is that somewhere along the line I may

I figured on a flaky chip somewhere because of the high heat last month. In

Actually, we have a choice when it comes to the system telling the user that a
program 'must' be called "whatever". It can be left blank, which brings
questions, or named.

With the many, many programs in the databases, we try to keep things as
consistent as possible, using the same download name as the actual filename.

R.S.'s policy on DOS upgrades seems to be governed by the individual store
rather than a standard. What your store may be doing is adjusting the price by
how many releases have been issued since your current version. It is ceratinly
not up to me to mandate policy in this matter, however, this is the first I have
heard of a $29.95 fee for a DOS upgrade - and many outlets do it for nothing or
a nominal fee.

additional cards ???? and 2. It's been some time since I've been inside my

 as claimed ?

The power supply ouput should be sufficient to run the expansion slot cards, as
the needed voltage for most is only 5 volts.

The cards that fit in the horizontal expansion slots are only about 4 inches
high after inserted. This means that you must have about 5 inches to the right
(as you face the computer), free of obstruction, once the expansion card is
inserted; from the middle of the card slot in which you place it. Even if you
have to place it in the middle slot and leave the right-most slot empty, you
still have 5 slots to use.

I have only heard from one person that has used the expansion and he loves it.

Well Doug;

If you can improve the program and thus eliminate little annoyances
like that - it would be well worth the effort.

Or, to save some work on the program, how about a mention of that
conflict of previous version resident and advise users to do what
I ended up doing - change the program (keep the old in backup just
in case you need it) and then re-boot with the autoexec calling the
new program. Somehow, changing the doc file seems easier than
changing the program. (if you don't have a doc other than the
built in - perhaps it might be a good idea to write one).

Of course, maybe the best and least confusing thing is to upgrade
to 4.2 and have the program behave as you mentioned.

So much for my rambling - thanks for 2 very good programs.

     New EISA 32-bit bus announced
     From: EDELLERS To: ALL

The Associated Press is reporting that Tandy and several other major computer
firms -- Compaq, Zenith, AST Research, Wyse Technology, Hewlett-Packard,
Olivetti, NEC and Epson -- have jointly announced an "extended industry-standard
architecture" standard. The EISA bus is based on the existing 16-bit bus that
was used in the IBM Personal Computer AT -- and is currently used in the Tandy
3000, 4000 and almost all 80286 and 80386 computers -- and adds 32-bit data
capability and features comparable to those IBM is claiming for the Micro
Channel Architecture used in several Personal System/2 models.

The advantage of EISA is that it can still use the standard expansion boards
designed for PC-compatible systems; the IBM PS/2 models (except for the low-end
Models 25 and 30) require entirely different boards from those used in other
PCs. EISA also forms an industry standard for 32-bit memory boards, and will
likely eliminate the need for buying memory boards designed for specific 386
machines like the Tandy 4000.

The AP report stated that EISA computers will become available in the second
half of 1989, after application-specific integrated circuits designed for the
EISA bus become available.

From my experience, the accelerator board works just fine, as it was intended.
However, the motherboard bus is still only 8, not 16 address lines. You must be
aware of this and careful when adding expansion boards. So, a AT controller will
not work in your computer because it is masked differently. This means that a
true AT hard drive configuration will not work, either. BUT - what is wrong with
a ST251, 40ms, in your SX?!!

The EMS board by Zucker, should work without problem, even with the ACC. board.
This is the most cost effective expansion that I have seen for the SX.

particular, Tandy DOS version 3.2 and 3.3) run excellently on most highly
compatible clones (in particular, my IBM PC/AT Tandy clone) and are flexible
enough to read the Tandy 2000's disk format without special manipulation.

Be advised, the 720K format that you referred to for the 3.5 inch disks is
TOTALLY different from the Tandy 2000's 720K format and the two are totally
incompatible. Tandy has only two sectors in each of the FAT's and stores files
in 2KB clusters while the Tandy compatible market (everybody is really a clone
of the outstanding Tandy 3000/4000/5000 line, aren't they) format uses three
sectors in the FAT and stores the files in 1KB clusters.

If your machine will not read them with your current DOS version and it is truly
compatible, you can get a copy of Tandy MS-DOS 3.2 or 3.3 and use it.

I run that DOS version exclusively on my IBM PC/AT and PS/2.

The ST251 is a 1/2 height, 40 ms, hard drive Reggie. And, yes, it would have to
go in a drive bay (B: on your machine, as you stated).

Hard Drives International does have a Seagate 3.5, 30 meg, 40 ms hard card for

It sounds like your Microsoft Works wants more than 384K of memory to compose
the spreadsheets. What does the hardware requirements section in the front of
the reference manual call for. Remember, memory requirements are generally
based on an IBM-PC with internal BIOS in ROM. The Tandy 1000 does not use BIOS
in ROM and, therefore, the system memory requirements are higher than on an
IBM-PC for the same DOS version. Also, the Tandy 1000 steals 16K of user RAM
(your 394K in this case) for its video memory, something again an IBM-PC does
not do. All in all, these additional requirements may cause you to need 512K of
memory

     RE: DESKMATE (Re: Msg 13093)
     From: JIMREED To: TACAN

  In your DeskMate autolog . . .

. . . instead of telling it to look for the "please type your terminal
identifier," just put in a PAUSE for a couple of seconds after CONNECT and
then go ahead and send the A.

A common mistake is to forget to tell it to send a carriage return after
the A. So, sequence would be something like:

WaitFor: CONNECT PAUSE 2 Send: A^M (the ^M is needed to tell it to send a
  carriage return)

Hard to give you a definitive answer since different versions of DeskMate use
  slightly different commands.

Your version of DeskMate may have a method of letting the "Wait for" time out
and then continue by send the command anyway if it has not seen the "Wait for"
  string in a given time.

                                   -- Jim Reed

P.S. Though few people have the new DeskMate 3.0, I do have a sample autolog
for calling Delphi through Telenet (and using PC Pursuit, to boot)using DM
  3.0.

  Want to see it? (Y/N)

Here is a sample of what the autolog edit screen
should look like when you have created an autolog
for calling Delphi through Telenet using PC Pursuit.
(But, if you TYPE the file from the DOS prompt,
it will not look like this.)
Of course, your own local Telenet node phone number
  should replace the 000-0000,
and your passwords for Delphi and PC Pursuit
should replace the YOUR OWN PASSWORD areas.

I'll add some notes after the sample:

  Commands Parameters
  ----------------------------------------------
  Set 1200, 7, E, 1, ON
  Call 000-0000
  Wait for "CONNECT", 10 seconds
  Send "^M^M"
  Wait for "=", 30 seconds
  Send "^M"
  Wait for "@", 30 seconds
  Send "C DELPHI,PCP00000^M"
Wait for "PASSWORD =", 10 seconds
  Send "YOUR PC PURSUIT PASSWORD^M"
  Wait for "Username:", 30 seconds
  Send "YOUR DELPHI USERNAME^M"
  Wait for "Password:", 30 seconds
  Send "YOUR DELPHI PASSWORD^M"

  ----------------------------------------------

Want to read the notes, too? (Y/N)

First, I used the SET command
by punching F3 and highlighting SET. Then I answered the prompts saying I
wanted to use 1200 Baud, 7 Bits, Even Parity, 1 Stop Bit, and Xon/Xoff in the
ON mode. (I also selected Add Line Feeds when I discovered my first sample
file got me on Delphi, but one line was typing right over the top of the next
  one.)

Then, I hit <ENTER> and DeskMate created the first line shown above.

Next, I hit F3 again and selected CALL
and typed in the number I use here in Louisville.

I hit <ENTER> again and the second line shown above was created.

Then, F3 again and select WAIT and I told DeskMate what should be seen on the
  screen
at that point and to wait until it was actually on the screen.

I told it to wait to see the word CONNECT.

(Later, I noticed that CONNECT was not echoed onto the screen, so I told it
to wait just 10 seconds and then go on with the autolog even if it did not see
CONNECT. There is a "pushbutton" when you are editing WAIT marked CONTINUE
that is used to do this.)

Pressing <ENTER>, I then had my third line.

  Starting to get the picture?

  Wanna keep reading?

I hit F3 again and picked SEND and told it to send two carriage returns (that
is, <ENTER> twice). These are represented on the screen by the "carat" and the
  capital letter M.

    I wanted two: ^M^M

The carat is usually above the number 6 on the keyboard. Hitting <ENTER> once
more, I had my fourth line.

Similarly, I created the rest of the lines. Obviously, I had to be familiar
with what the Telenet and PC Pursuit and Delphi prompts were going to be and
what I was supposed to type at those prompts.

Let me add this caution: A common mistake (for me anyway) is to forget to add
the carriage return (the <ENTER> command) in the autolog file by typing in the
^M after the password entry or having DeskMate add it (there is a
  pushbutton).

In this particular "autolog" or "script" file, I ended it as soon as I was
online to Delphi, at which point I would take over manually. Creating an
autolog can be tedious unless you are absolutely sure what prompt to "Wait
for" and exactly what to "Send" in reply. Even experienced users get messed
  up.

For instance, if you log on at 2400, the prompts are not the same as they are
at 1200. I decided to use 1200 since more users are likely to have that, but I
was more accustomed to 2400 baud prompts and had to manually log on to refresh
my memory as to what the various services would use as prompts when running at
  1200.

A tip: If the autolog does not work, you very likely have reached a point
where the autolog file is looking for something in error. For instance, if you
tell it to Wait for "Password:" and it sees "PASSWORD:" in all capital letters
it will probably sit and wait for caps and lowercase, and not budge (or simply
time out and hang up) until it sees exactly what you told it to wait for.

                                 Hope this helps

                                   -- Jim Reed

I've never paid a penny for a DOS upgrade. In fact, my RS dealer calls and
leaves messages on my answering machine when he has new versions in the store. I
stop by with a blank formatted disk or two and he upgrades me on the spot. This
particular dealer is also extremely well informed about hardware & software and
shareware, etc. He has a lot of happy custmers who form a sort of a network --
he puts us in touch with each other for jobs, projects, special needs, etc. He
says he gets a kick out of catalyzing things this way. They in turn call him
maybe a couple of times a week to tell him stuff they've learned/discovered,
etc. All in all, it keepps a lot of us coming back to that store. And he knows
we feel that way so he is not afraid to tell us when we might find a "better
deal" elsewhere. I, for example, have been in the market for a T-100 or a T-102
for over a year. He had them in stock but he kept saying "see if you can put
your hands on a second hand machine." Crunch time came two weeks ago when I
ABSOLUTELY had to have one for a job. Lo & behold, he found me a 2nd hand one
for about $225. I immediately turned around and spent the $200 or so that I had
saved on a little disk drive for it. Of course I bought it from him. He's good.
