                         EXABYTE EXADAI TAPE DRIVER
                             FOR NOVELL SERVERS
																																	VERSION 1.0

USING NOVELL SBACKUP UTILITY

Exabyte Software Development has created a Netware loadable device driver
called EXADAI.DSK to enable end-users of Exabyte tape products to use the
8mm product line with Novell servers and the default backup utility from
Novell, SBACKUP.

1.0 EXABYTE EXADAI NETWORK LOADABLE MODULE

To provide support to the customer for the entire 8mm product line,
Exabyte has created a netware module called EXADAI.DSK. This module has
been certified by Novell specifically for Novell OS versions 3.12 and 4.10
only. When used with the Novell backup utility SBACKUP, EXADAI.DSK allows
the usage of any member of Exabyte's 8mm tape family for network backup
(excluding the EXB-8200 on Novell 3.12 systems). This module is used
with 8mm tape drives connected to the Novell Server. The name means
EXAbyte Device Application Interface. A Device Application Interface
means that it meets a functional specification of Novell to work with the
netware operating system.

As Novell does not provide support for certification of any device drivers
for the Novell OS 3.11, the EXADAI.DSK device driver is not certified for
that OS system. Exabyte does not support the operation of any EXADAI.DSK
device driver on a Novell 3.11 system.

2.0 NOVELL SBACKUP UTILITY

For both Novell versions 3.12 and 4.10, a version of the SBACKUP utility
is provided. There have been several upgrades to this utility by Novell
for both 3.12 and 4.10. These upgrades should be obtained and used as
many maintenance improvements. They can be found in either the Novell
forum on CompuServe or the Novell Web page at http://www.novell.com.
These files are self-extracting and contain documentation on how to install
the new SBACKUP version along with other new support files that need to be
downloaded from Novell and installed also for the new version of SBACKUP
to function correctly.

The EXB-8200 cannot be certified with Novell 3.12 as the version of SBACKUP
used with Novell 3.12 issues a SCSI command for tape motion when appending
data that the EXB-8200 does not support. This command is not used in the
SBACKUP version in 4.10 with the EXB-8200 and the drive functions normally.

3.0 INSTALLATION OF EXADAI ON NOVELL SYSTEMS

There are different installation procedures for Netware 3.12 and 4.10.
Listed below are the procedures for both versions.

3.1 Loading EXADAI

The device driver EXADAI.DSK is provided in a compressed file with two
sub-directories, EXADAI.312 and EXADAI.41X. There is a specific driver
for each OS version in their corresponding sub-directories. Uncompress
the contents of the zipped file using PKUNZIP with the option -d to create
the sub-directory structure in the compressed file, into a temporary
directory onto a hard disk. The following steps should be followed for
proper installation of the EXADAI software module.

3.1.1 Loading EXADAI with Netware 3.12

Copy the EXADAI.DSK driver from the sub-directory EXADAI.312 onto a floppy
diskette. Use a workstation to copy the software module EXADAI.DSK on the
floppy diskette onto the SYS:\SYSTEM sub-directory of the server the tape
drive will be used with. Once the EXADAI.DSK file has been copied into
the server's SYS:\system sub-directory from a workstation, it can then be
loaded from the server console. At the system console, enter
"LOAD EXADAI.DSK". The module will load with the message on the console:

EXABYTE TAPE DAI for Netware 3.XX
                VERSION X.XX (Month Date, Year)

For all tape drives certified with Novell 3.12, version 1.03 or greater
of EXADAI.DSK must be used.

3.1.2 Loading EXADAI with Netware 4.10

Copy the EXADAI.DSK driver and the EXADAI.DDI file from the sub-directory
EXADAI.41X onto a floppy diskette. Put the floppy diskette into the
server's disk drive and then type "LOAD INSTALL" on the server's console.
From the INSTALLATION OPTIONS menu select the "Driver Options (load/unload
disk and network drivers)" line and press enter. From the DRIVER OPTIONS
menu select the "Configure Disk and Storage device drivers" line and press
enter. From the ADDITIONAL DRIVER ACTIONS menu select the "Select an
additional driver" line. At the bottom of the screen choose the option
"Install an unlisted driver <INS>". Press the INS key and then the enter
key again. The floppy disk will be read and then list the EXADAI.DSK
driver. The information on the screen about the EXADAI.DSK driver is from
the EXADAI.DDI file. Press enter to select the listed driver. You will
be asked if you want to copy EXADAI.DSK. Press enter and you will be asked
to specify a server boot path with the default being C:\nwserver. If yours
is different, enter it. Press enter and the file is copied. Exit the
utility to finish.

Once the EXADAI.DSK file has been copied into the server's SYS:\system
sub-directory, it can then be loaded from the server console. At the
system console, enter "LOAD EXADAI.DSK". The module will load with the
message on the console:

EXABYTE TAPE DAI for Netware 4.XX
              VERSION X.XX (Month Date, Year)

For all tape drives except the EXB-8200, version 1.03 or greater of
EXADAI.DSK must be used. The EXB-8200 must use version 1.05 or greater.

4.0 LOADING SBACKUP

To insure that the DSK driver has installed correctly, issue the Novell
utility command "SCAN FOR NEW DEVICES". When completed, issue "LIST
DEVICES" and determine if the EXABYTE drive has been listed. Once the
EXADAI module has installed correctly, the user must then load up the
Target Service Agent (TSA) for their particular server. This TSA NLM
communicates with SBACKUP on the type of data being backed up to insure
all data is backup up correctly. If a newer version of SBACKUP is used,
make sure that the correct version of the TSA is used, as listed in the
documentation. The menu structure is different for the SBACKUP versions
for 3.12 and 4.10. The following sections describe briefly their method
of operation.

4.1 SBACKUP for 3.12

The SBACKUP.NLM utility is loaded by entering at the server console
"LOAD SBACKUP". The opening screen will come up and ask for the username.
Once entered, a new menu will come up asking the user to "SELECT THE TAPE
DRIVER". There will be several menu items of drivers to select from. The
correct version for the 3.12 server is the "DIBI-2 DAI TAPE DRIVER". Once
selected, these drivers will look for the Exabyte device and return with a
message listing the device. Press enter and the main menu will appear.
Use the documentation provided by Novell for the functional operation of
SBACKUP.

4.2 SBACKUP For 4.10

The start of loading SBACKUP for 4.10 is the same as 3.12. Simply enter at
the server console "LOAD SBACKUP". After that the structure of the "Netware
Server Backup Utility v.4.0" is different. A main menu appears and the
user must choose the "Storage Device Administrator" option from a list of
devices found connected to the server. Once the backup device is selected
it checks to see if a tape is in the drive and mounts it. The user then
goes back to the main menu and follows the instructions provided by Novell
for the functional operation of SBACKUP.

5.0 EXABYTE 8MM DRIVES

The certification testing of the 8mm tape drives was done using the Novell
