IBM DB2 OLAP Server Version 1.0.1
****************************************************
README file for CLIENTS only
****************************************************

This README file contains information about the DB2 OLAP
Server clients only. Make sure you also read the primary
README file for DB2 OLAP Server which is displayed during
installation. The primary README file is stored in
x:\essbase\bin\readme.txt, where "x\essbase" is the path
in which you installed the product.

Note: If you are using Named Pipes network protocol,
please see the "Known Problems" section at the bottom
of this file for important information.

This file contains the following sections:

1. ADDITIONAL SPREADSHEET ADD-IN INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
2. LATE-BREAKING DOCUMENTATION FOR VERSION 1.0.1
3. KNOWN PROBLEMS

1. ADDITIONAL SPREADSHEET ADD-IN INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
--------------------------------------------------------------

After installing the French or German Spreadsheet Add-in components,
take the following steps to complete the installation of the sample files:

A. Create a directory called "client" under x:\essbase, where
"x:\essbase" is the path on which you installed the product.
In the client directory, create a subdirectory called "sample".

B. For the French files, copy the contents of the \language\fr\sample
directory of the CD to the x:\essbase\client\sample directory.
For the German files, copy the contents of the \language\de\sample
directory of the CD to the x:\essbase\client\sample directory.

2. LATE-BREAKING DOCUMENTATION FOR VERSION 1.0.1
----------------------------------------------------
The following product changes occurred late in the release cycle
for DB2 OLAP Server 1.0.1 and did not make it into the documentation.

Spreadsheet Add-in For Excel:

Keep in mind the following guidelines and restrictions
when using the Formula Preservation options:

On the Mode page of the Essbase Options dialog box,
you must have the Advanced Interpretation option selected
to enable Retain on Retrieval. The Formula Preservation
options do not work with Free-Form retrieval mode.

You must check the Retain on Retrieval check box to
enable the Retain on Keep and Remove Only and Retain
on Zooms check boxes.

You must check the Retain on Zooms check box to enable
the Formula Fill check box.

When you enable Retain on Retrieval, the Suppress #MISSING
Rows and Zero Rows options on the Display page are disabled.
Conversely, if you have either of these Display options selected,
the Formula Preservation options are disabled.

When you check Retain on Zooms, the Remove Unselected Groups
option in the Zoom page becomes disabled.

If you are running the Spreadsheet Add-in Windows NT 3.51
or Windows 3.1 and you try to view or launch a linked reporting
object (LRO) that is an Excel spreadsheet, Essbase displays a
message that the LRO cannot be found.

Pivoting in a spreadsheet that contains duplicate members
removes all but one of the duplicate members. This is also true for
spreadsheets containing more than one Dynamic Time Series member
with the same Latest Time Period setting.

Spreadsheet Add-in For Lotus 1-2-3:

Keep in mind the following guidelines and restrictions
when using the Formula Preservation options:

Formula preservation is lost if you double click on an
empty cell.

When you enable Retain on Zooms, the Remove Unselected Groups
option on the Zoom page is disabled, and vice versa.

Pivoting in a spreadsheet that contains duplicate members
removes all but one of the duplicate members. This is also true for
spreadsheets containing more than one Dynamic Time Series member
with the same Latest Time Period setting.

HTML online information:
- - - - - - - - - - - - -

If you install the online HTML files to a hard drive, the amount of
space required for the files varies depending on whether your
file system uses File Allocation Tables (FAT). Because the HTML
documentation is comprised of many small files, the amount of
physical memory taken up on your drive, with FAT allocation, is
greater than the total size of the HTML files. For example, a
cluster size of 32 K on a 1 GB hard drive can require up to 40 MB
of disk space for the HTML files. To work around this problem,
allocate enough disk space to contain the HTML files and store
them centrally on a network drive.

3. KNOWN PROBLEMS
--------------------
Every effort has been made to ensure that DB2 OLAP Server is as
free of bugs as possible. However, there are some known problems.

Named Pipes Protocol
- - - - - - - - - - - -
Windows NT 4.0 client machines running either 16-bit or 32-bit
Spreadsheet Add-in or Application Manager cannot connect to a
remote Windows NT 4.0 server using Named Pipes protocol. The
work-around is to first login to the Windows NT server machine using
Explorer or Network Neighborhood independently of DB2 OLAP Server.
Using this method, you must login to the remote Windows NT machine
using an account with NT Administrator privilege.

Windows 95 client machines running the 32-bit Excel Spreadsheet
Add-in cannot connect to a Windows NT server using Named Pipes
protocol.

Spreadsheet Add-in
- - - - - - - - - - -
As a general rule in Excel, always include an extra blank row as the
last row in your formula range. This will ensure that Excel will
expand the formulas properly when you zoom in on members
with the Retain on Zoom option on.

SQL Interface and SQL Drill-Through
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
DB2 OLAP Server clients cannot connect to Informix V7.12 on
Solaris servers.

Do not attempt the SQL data load with the Modify outline option
against a Solaris server. This will crash the server.

Do not enter a quotation mark at the beginning of the SQL login
Username/Password field. That will crash the server session
on an OS/2 server.

Do not issue a SELECT *.* FROM Calendar, Weekly; SQL statement
against the Sample application and database on an OS/2 server.
The server session might crash.

Loading data from Sybase System 10 to a DB2 OLAP Server might
cause the server to crash.

Do not attempt two concurrent SQL data loads to a DB2 OLAP Server.

Invalid SQL statements in SQL drill segments can crash the server.
Make sure that prebuilt SQL code is valid before attempting a
drill operation.

Do not use the dbservername in the ODBC.INI file when connecting
to Informix-Online V7.12 via CLI V2.5.

Do not use the connection string when connecting to
Informix-Online V7.12 via CLI V2.5.
