1  You are now on the primary reservation window.
1  To the right you should see the actual 3270 screen.
1  If that screen is not visible move the reservation window a little to the left.
1  To begin work as the reservation clerk click the Accept Calls button.
2  The phone will start ringing in a moment if it has not already. 
2  Answer the call by clicking the Answer Call button
3  The caller is asking for a room at the Island Hotel.
3  Select the Island by clicking on the drop down list icon next to the hotel name field.
4  The guest will be arriving on January 20 1994 and staying two nights
4  Click the >> button next to the Arrival and Departure dates
4  A pop-up calendar will appear from which you can select the dates
5  Click on the 20th of the month and then the 22nd
5  The days in between will be automatically highlighted
5  Click the Select button to pass these dates back to the main Reservation form
5  Note that using this method it is impossible for the clerk to enter invalid dates
6  The guest will be traveling with their spouse so indicate 2 persons using the spin button
6  Use of spin buttons insures that only valid entries can be sent to the host
7  The caller wants to reserve a suite. 
7  Click the drop down list icon next to the Room Type to select Suite
7  Note the image of the room layout that appears
7  The image has come from a local image database
8  The caller requests a king size bed. Select the bed type from the drop down list.
9  All the data needed by the host transaction to determine room availability has now been entered.
9  All of the data entered has been pre-validated before it can be sent to the host
9  Now click the Check Room Availability button to transmit the data to the host
9  Watch the original screen to observe the actual host transaction
10 A room is available that matches the guests requirements
10 You can complete the reservation by entering the guest's name and address
10 In addition you can specify that the room be held for late arrival
10 If the room is being held for late arrival a credit card number must be entered
11 Enter a guest address.  Validations and look-up functions are built in to the dialog.
11 With the State field the user can enter the first letter of the state and press tab to display the list.
11 The Zip Code and Telephone are masked edit fields that only permit valid formats for the items entered.
12 If you hold for late arrival a credit card account must be entered.
12 Tabbing or clicking out of the expiration date field triggers card verification.
12 In this simulation the card information is sent to a credit verification server.
13 Once all of the guest information is entered the data is sent to the host transaction.
13 The host transaction will then return a confirmation number.
13 Using new client workstation functions this number is used to generate a confirmation letter.
13 The data from the dialog is combined with data from the host to create the letter.
14 The reservation has now been confirmed by the host application.
14 The dialog box contains the confirmation number generated by the host.
14 Click the OK button and a confirmation letter will be generated at the PC.
15 Using the capabilities of the word processor you can customize the letter before it is sent.
15 To close Write select Exit from the File menu.  Do not save the generated letter.
15 After you have closed Write select the Hotel Information button.
16 To improve customer service the client workstation can contain new functions.
16 In the case of the reservation system information about the hotel can be added from a local database.
16 A map of the hotel location and directions can be viewed for each hotel.
16 Information on activities can be viewed also.  This information could be placed into the confirmation letter.
16 All of these other functions are added locally without changes to the host application.
17 Lets suppose another call has come in. The caller is Bob Smith and he wants to cancel a reservation.
17 Click the Check Reservations button.
18 Bob Smith wants to cancel his reservation at the Island Hotel.
18 In the Hotel name field select Island and for the guest name enter Bob Smith.
18 Once you have entered the information click the Find button to send the query to the host.
19 A list of reservations for Bob Smith at the Island Hotel are now displayed.
19 You can cancel the reservation by clicking the X Room button adjacent to the reservation.
19 Alternately you may exit this dialog by pressing the Cancel button.
20 The reservation has been cancelled in the host database. 
20 Click the OK button to return to the reservation list.
21 You may exit this dialog by pressing the New Reservation or Cancel buttons.
22 You can examine other functions such as the Procedures and Help dialogs.
22 These functions demonstrate how new User Assistance functions can be added.
22 Click the STOP button to exit the demonstration.
23 The Rules and Procedures dialog demonstrates how business process information can be added to help the user.
23 Thick reference manuals or user written notes on how to use a system can now be placed on-line.
