1.0 Hardware and software requirements

The Mobility Client for Palm OS has been tested with the following
devices. The text in parentheses () indicates the operating systems
  tested with the device:

  -- Tungsten W (Palm OS 4.1.2)
  -- Tungsten C (Palm OS 5.2.1)
  -- Treo 600 (Palm OS 5.2.1) from Sprint, AT&T, and T-Mobile

The Mobility Client for Palm OS has been tested with the following
  network connection types:

-- Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA)
-- Global Systems for Mobile Communications / General Packet Radio
     Switching (GSM/GPRS)

The Mobility Client for Palm OS requires Palm Desktop Version 4.0.1 or
later to be installed on your workstation.

3.0 New features for version 5.1

You can select an application to auto-start after successfully connecting
  to the Connection Manager.

Administrators can troubleshoot connection problems with the Connection
  Manager.

Configurations files can be imported into the Mobility Client without
  user intervention.

3.1 New feature for version 5.1.0.1

Added support for limiting the Mobility Clients that are permitted to
log on to the Connection Manager by device class. This capability is a
security feature of the connection profile that is assigned to the
mobile network connection (MNC) to which the client logs in.

3.2 New features for version 5.1.1

-- New documentation in the User's Guide about configuring clients using
   the command line

-- In addition to using single or two-party key distribution to provide
authentication key exchange between the Mobility Client and the
Connection Manager, you can optionally specify that secondary
authentication is required before the Connection Manager finalizes
   the login procedure.

-- You can resume a connection such that the network interface is unloaded
to save battery consumption, but the connection state remains intact.

-- Transport profile support - The parameters are now downloaded and
assigned from the Connection Manager at each login or roam event.

4.0 Upgrading to version 5.1

To upgrade from an older version of the Mobility Client for Palm OS, use
  the following steps:

-- Soft reset your device before you perform any further actions. (Refer
to your device's manual for information to perform a soft reset).

-- Run the Mobility Client for Palm OS.exe install image on your desktop
       and follow the install instructions.

-- Synchronize your device with your desktop with HotSync.

-- When you launch the Mobility Client for Palm OS from your device,
you are notified that an upgrade has been detected. Create a new
account by tapping Preferences -> Account -> New to re-configure your
account. Do not create a duplicate account with Preferences ->
Account-> Duplicate because your account will not be properly
       reconfigured.

5.0 Product limitations

  Palm OS
  -------

-- The Mobility Client for Palm OS does not enable you to set the default
       route.

-- If you are running this software on a device that ships with the Blazer
Web Browser, you may not be able to load internal Web sites because the
browser relies on a proxy that is incompatible with the Mobility Client
       for Palm OS.

-- This release of the Mobility Client for Palm OS does not support moving
the modules into an SD card. The modules must remain on the handheld.

-- If you run the LFTP application and try to transfer a large file over a
slow network through the private network interface, the transfer may
time out before the file is completely transferred.

-- If you are using a T-Mobile Treo 600, you may experience the following
error from some network applications including the Mobility Client for
       Palm OS:

Error: GPRS connection not available. Check your settings in Network
Perferences and/or try again later (0x7143)

To correct the situation, go to the Application Launcher, tap on Perfs
and select Network from the drop down list, then create a new connection
       configured as follows:

       Service: [any name]
       Connection: GPRS
       User Name: [leave blank]
       Password: [leave blank - Unassigned]]
       APN: internet2.voicestream.com

Tap Disconnect, then Connect to make this the default setting. This will
correct the problem from any Internet application including the Mobility
       Client for Palm OS.

-- The Palm OS has a known issue with the Network Preferences Panel that
causes the state of the Connect/Disconnect button to get out of sync
with the state of the underlying Network Library (NetLib). The effect is
that the button will sometimes display "Connect" when NetLib is
connected, or "Disconnect" when NetLib is disconnected. The impact is
that you may get an error from the Palm OS when you tap on this button
and the states are out of sync. However, in most cases you should be able
to still use the network if NetLib is connected. Otherwise, you may need
       to soft reset your device.

-- If you are running this software on a Tungsten C and have multiple WiFi
access points configured and you attempt to switch access points from
the Network Preferences Panel after powering your device on, you might
experience a Fatal Alert while restoring the connection with the
       Connection Manager.

-- The Mobility Client for Palm OS does not support the broadcast feature
and should not be added to a broadcast group on the Connection Manager.

-- The Mobility Client for Palm OS does not support usernames and passwords
that contain characters from the Double Byte Character Set (DBCS).

-- This release of the Mobility Client for Palm OS allows only up to 20
       characters for password fields.

-- If you are running this software on a Tungsten C and your device becomes
idle or is powered off while connected to the Connection Manager,
restoring the network connection might result in a Fatal Alert. To
prevent this Fatal Alert, logoff from and logon to the Connection
Manager to restore your network connection.

-- The Mobility Client for Palm OS might experience stalls during large
data transfers (for example, during an initial sync with the WebSphere
Everyplace Access or during large file downloads) or after long
periods of frequent usage on the Treo 600. If you are experiencing this
problem, you might need to upgrade the software built into your device.
Please visit the PalmOne website at http://www.palmone.com for information
       on the Treo 600 Updater.

-- If you are running this software on a Tungsten C or a Tungsten W, large
data transfers (e.g. initial WebSphere Everyplace Access sync or large DMS
update) may result in a timeout and in some cases it may result in a Fatal
       Alert.

-- If you are running the Mobility Client for Palm OS on a Tungsten C
using CJKOS (Chinese, Japanese, Korean operation system) enablers,
you can experience an unexpected interruption which causes the
Mobility Client to stop when you disconnect from the Connection
Manager after disabling and re-enabling CJKOS while connected to
       the Connection Manager.
